Last Prisoner Project

The Last Prisoner Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform. They are committed to freeing every prisoner of the unjust war on drugs, starting with the estimated 40,000 individuals still imprisoned for cannabis, despite decriminalization in many states. LPP was founded out of the belief that if anyone can profit and build wealth in the legal cannabis industry, those individuals must also work to release and rebuild the lives of those who have suffered from cannabis criminalization. This is something we truly believe in.

Helping Our Local Communities

We also want to have a positive impact on our own community. To do this, we’re giving in kind donations to both Community Action Agency of Somerville (CAAS) as well as a local charity that provides essential hygiene products to those in need in Needham. There will be drop boxes in both our Needham and Somerville stores.

Community Action Agency Somerville

Somerville+Community+Organizing+March+4A (1)

Community Action Agency of Somerville helps local families and individuals achieve financial security while working to eliminate the root causes of economic injustice. They have been helping Somerville residents for 40 years! Their goal is to Expand and promote opportunities for all Somerville residents in the fields of education, employment, housing, health, and improved neighborhood life, and serve as a structure for empowering both low-income constituencies and those whose full involvement in the community has been obstructed or discouraged by oppression and discrimination.

Given the multiple barriers that low-income families often face, the seamlessness of services provided is often critical to their clients’ success.

Hygiene Products For Those In Need

We hope that one day everyone living in the US will have access to essential hygiene products to feel clean, confident, and healthy. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits do not cover these products. This makes getting essential items a huge challenge. They are expensive and buying them shifts money away from other urgent needs.

At the local charity we’re collecting in kind- donations for, they know how something as basic as a bar of soap can have a huge impact on how individuals feel about themselves. Because of this, they work tirelessly to bring these critical products to all who need them. They carry out this mission by working with a distribution network that includes youth-serving and community organizations. These organizations distribute the products to children and adults who currently go without. They focus their efforts on the Greater Boston area.

We are currently asking for in-kind donations for NEW

  • Toothpaste
  • Shampoo
  • Soap
  • Toothbrushes
  • Women’s hygiene products/menstrual products
  • Deodorant

Lastly, our parent company, AYR Wellness will be giving away $25,000 to Freedom Grow. They are 501c-3 Nonprofit organization that supports cannabis prisoners and their families. They grant small wishes to incarcerated individuals like magazine subscriptions and book orders, as well as family outreach and public education. They also grant wishes for holidays, birthdays, and emergency funds.

Happy Holidays everyone! Let’s get into the giving spirit!
